This grant helped a rescue dog named Cheeks, one of our most difficult medical cases since the day we rescued her last year. She was fighting for her life with severe pneumonia and, somehow, she survived. But her recovery was far from over.

The pneumonia left her with a chronic cough, which delayed her ability to go under anesthesia for her spay. Just as she started to improve and was finally cleared for surgery, disaster struck again: Cheeks was diagnosed with pyometra—a life-threatening uterine infection—only days before her scheduled spay.

We rushed her to the emergency hospital, only to discover that she was also battling pneumonia again. Due to her respiratory condition, emergency surgery wasn’t an option. Thankfully, it was an open pyometra, which meant doctors could stabilize her and treat her with aggressive antibiotics. Against the odds, she responded beautifully.

After multiple hospitalizations, she was discharged and is now recovering in her loving foster home. She’s still coughing, but we’re monitoring her closely and awaiting full clearance to finally schedule her spay. Her foster mom is going to adopt her! We are so grateful for the help of the Petfinder Foundation!
