Chow Chow Rescue of Centra New York, Inc.: Sponsor a Pet Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used this grant to pay for vet bills for a Chow named Chief.

We took in 18 Chows from a hoarder in Florida who had 54 living in horrid conditions. Chief was a Chow who had a terrible ear infection and some issues with his eyes. We used this grant to get the help he needed.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Chief is one of 54 Chows pulled from a hoarding house in Florida. He had never been outside or even touched grass. We had to shave him due to the condition of his coat. Chief was so scared, as you can imagine. He would flinch and cower anytime anyone came near him. He was transported to a loving foster home in Massachusetts. His foster mom noticed he tilted his head all the time and one of his eyes wasn’t quite right. A trip to the vet and we discovered a very bad ear infection and a luxating lens in his right eye. He really doesn’t have much vision out of that eye, but that doesn’t stop him. Never having been on a leash or had a collar on, those things were very scary for him. His foster mom worked with leash training and he is now walking on a leash. Even though Chief has a long way to go to trust people, we believe he will, and will make someone a wonderful pet in the future.
