Pets Alive: P.L.A.Y. Pet Beds Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the Chill Pads for our dogs.

We have many senior animals who come to Pets Alive; some have been with us for a long while, whereas others come in and get adopted quite rapidly. We try to prioritize the Chill Pads for our more senior dogs who may have arthritis -- or who may simply enjoy a softer bed than the plain vinyl Kuranda beds that all our kennels have.

Therefore we targeted use of the Chill Pads for our senior dogs or dogs who need the extra padding (and don't chew the beds!).

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

One senior dog who enjoyed the Chill Pad is Fancy Fajita (first photo), who is almost 8 years old. Fancy has lived at Pets Alive since she was one year old and originally came from Puerto Rico. Behavior issues reduced her chances of adoption early on, but our team and volunteers have worked with Fancy over the years and more recently, she has been very friendly with many of the volunteers and much more adoptable, although she’d do best in a home without other animals or children. Her Petfinder adoption page can be found here.

Sasha was another senior dog who benefited from the beds. She originally came to Pets Alive in 2012 from Baton Rouge, LA, as a young dog. She was adopted out but came back in 2017; was adopted out and then returned again in 2018 due to behavior issues. Our team continued to work with Sasha on her behavior issues, which helped her become more adoptable. Sasha was only able to use the bed for a short time because in June 2020, she was adopted by a wonderful lady (second photo)!

We also acknowledged your generosity for sponsoring the P.L.A.Y. contest and donating the beds. It had a very similar message as our Facebook page, a photo of which is attached. The email went to over 11,000 supporters.

I have also attached a picture of the acknowledgment posting on Facebook viewed by many. We had a similar posting on Twitter.
