RESCUEDohio: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

As any animal-welfare organization knows, adoptions in 2023 have been a struggle. We chose to use this Kia Pet Adoption Grant to help reduce fees for our adult dogs, hoping to incentivize adult adoptions for those who may see the adoption fee as a hurdle.

With the $750 we received, we decided to take $75 off 10 adult adoptions. The beneficiaries of this grant adopted some of our longest residents, including a couple of senior dogs (a mother-daughter bonded pair) who had been with us for nearly two years. Others included long-term pitties, a cruelty case survivor, an injured stray, and a momma who came to us with her babies.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Baby and June were with us for nearly two years. They were a bonded pair, mother and daughter, and seniors.

At 7 and 9 years old, they didn’t exactly have people banging down the doors to adopt them. And though they needed to stay together, they were fairly easy dogs.

Even with senior pricing, we couldn’t help but think that maybe the adoption fee for two dogs could be a factor in their lack of interest. We were able to use this grant to reduce their adoption fee by another $75 and, within the last couple months, we finally got to see them land in their forever home. For whatever time they have left, this mom and daughter duo will get to stay together in a loving home.
