Vinton County Ohio Dog Shelter: Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We had many dogs who really needed some mental stimulation while not being able to be out of their kennels. We were able to get many things with this grant to help them, not only in their kennels but also out in the play yard. Some of the fan favorites are the puzzle toys and the flirt poles. We can see such a big difference in the dogs and we can tell that they are much happier!

We have two dogs whom this grant has really helped. Goose and Louie are amazing dogs who just have had no luck with being adopted.
Louie (first photo) is our old man and sometimes it’s hard for him to get around, so having stuff to get him motivated to stretch his legs is important. We wanted to get flirt poles, not only for him but the other dogs too.
Louie has been at our shelter for way longer than we wanted him to be, so we try to keep him as mentally stimulated and happy as possible.
He is still available for adoption; you can meet Louie here.
Goose (second photo) is a hound mix who LOVES to use his nose. Due to us only having two people at our shelter working, it can be hard sometimes getting all of the dogs proper out-of-kennel time.
With this grant, we purchased puzzle toys, and Goose LOVES them and getting to use his nose to work out the treats or find them.
He is still available for adoption; you can meet Goose here.
