Greyhound Adoption of Ohio: Sponsor a Pet Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The donation was used for general operating expenses for the kennel, including propane for heating the kennel and electricity.

It can be expensive to maintain a kennel for a small non-profit. We rely on donations and boarding monies to cover our expenses so that a safe, clean and happy environment is available to the retired racing greyhounds we place.

How many pets did this grant help?

GAO places 150+ greyhounds per year, who all spend time in the kennel while waiting for their forever homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Glam and Glitz are two 5-year-old sisters who were returned after their owner passed away. Together the girls were a handful, so the decision was made to split them up. Glam got a home fairly soon but Glitz (pictured) took much longer. Glitz is a sweet girl who has some quirks that don’t allow her to be placed in many homes. Each time she was a candidate for a home, something happened that made the deal fall through. Fast forward to January 2016. Coming up on seven months and Glitz had no prospects. One of our Columbus families had lost their two girls (greyhounds) in the past six months and decided that they would foster Glitz. From the moment she walked into their house, Glitz won their hearts. They’ve learned to deal with her quirks and she’s found her forever home with a wonderful family.
