Tails of Hope: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This amazing Kong grant was used to provide rescued death-row doggies with toys!

This grant provided rescued death-row doggies with toys for hours of entertainment! Many of our rescued pups are injured and/or need to recover from surgeries. In some cases, their injuries can be severe, and long periods of crate rest are required. Being able to provide these Kings has been so, so wonderful! In addition to utilizing these Kongs for our injured animals, many of our rescued dogs have never had toys before and need to learn how to play. It's been such a blessing to be able to provide toys for all of our babies.

How many pets did this grant help?

About 80 -- we gave each dog more than one toy!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

At right are pictures of the Kongs we received and of two dogs who were in our care. Murphy (yellow Lab mix) and Martin (black Lab mix). Murphy and Martin needed lots and lots and lots of training before they were ready for adoption. Murphy was an enormous, exuberant puppy with the manners of a Neanderthal. He had never seen the inside of a home and didn’t grow up with littermates. Once he was rescued, he was socialized, but it was difficult. Being able to provide him with Kongs for quiet crate time made him so happy and comfortable. He began to thrive and understand better what was expected of him in his crate.

Martin had to be on crate rest for over a month while he recovered from leg surgery. Being able to provide him with a few different Kongs helped keep him occupied and content while he healed.

Both Murphy and Martin have gone on to find their perfect families! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
