Alliston & District Humane Society: Cat Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant provided an amazing array of cat-enrichment items to the new, expanded section of our building. Prior to this year, cats were housed in cramped, windowless rooms. They had little opportunity to roam free and play. Our new addition has doubled the space for cats and is bright and airy with lots of sunlight and a number of free-roaming rooms.

The Petfinder Foundation grant allowed us to purchase a number of enrichment items, including toys, tunnels, play wands, play tunnels, a cat iPad, and many other items. The cats are having am amazing time with their new space and toys!

How many pets did this grant help?

400

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Desiree (photos 1 and 2), 1.5 years old, has been with us almost a year. She is sassy and opinionated and wants affection on her terms, but she does love to play and explore. She enjoys hanging out with other cats and spends most of her time sleeping or keeping watch of the room. The new wand toys from the Petfinder Foundation are her favorites and have brought new excitement into her life! Desiree is up for adoption and her profile can be found here.

Goji (photos 3 and 4) was found as a stray wandering in the Wasaga Beach area. He came in with several ticks, which we removed, but was a healthy 2-year-old boy otherwise. He is a little shy initially, but once he gets to know you, he is an incredibly affectionate and sweet cat who loves to get ear scratches and lounge about all day. He is also great with other cats and really seems to like the cat TV that we put on on the iPads. His profile can be found here.
