Paws Above Rescue: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant from the Petfinder Foundation helped fund the essential care of four Anatolian shepherd/pointer-mix puppies. The pups arrived at Paws Above Rescue at 3 1/2 months old and were immediately placed in foster homes.

The grant dollars helped cover several necessary veterinary expenses. After receiving a wellness check from a vet, all puppies received vaccinations for distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, Parvovirus, and rabies. Deworming tests and treatment were needed for all the puppies. One pup required an additional parasite test and treatment.

When they were old enough, the two female pups were spayed and the two male puppies were neutered. They were also microchipped.

In early April, we began administering flea and tick preventative medicine to the puppies still under our care.

Grants like these allow us to provide comprehensive care to the dogs we foster, giving them the best chance at a happy and healthy life. We're immensely grateful to the Petfinder Foundation and Purina Canada for the financial support.

We are thrilled to announce that all of our puppies have been adopted, with the last puppy adopted in mid-May, four months after arriving at Paws Above Rescue. Ariel, Arnold, Jasmine, and Prince are all enjoying their new forever homes!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Arnold was the last of our Anatolian shepherd/pointer-mix puppies to be adopted. When the puppies arrived at Paws Above Rescue, they were all underweight and had worms. In addition, Arnold had parasites. Medication was needed to treat those conditions; we also administered basic vaccinations. Once he was old enough, Arnold was also neutered.

With Arnold’s basic health needs covered, his foster caregiver ensured that he received enough food to get his weight up. At 8 months old, Arnold now weighs 60 lbs. and is still growing!

It took four months, but Arnold is now living with his new forever family and is happy and healthy.
