Second Hope Circle: Purina Canada Happy Paws & Hearts Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant went to Gertie to receive an ultrasound as a follow-up to her bloodwork.

The grant also went to June Bug for her acupuncture and laser therapy appointments. June Bug has disc disease and arthritis which impacts her mobility. In addition to pain medication, her vet therapy appointments have improved her mobility and she is now able to do stairs and get around better than before.

Specialist appointments are expensive but can make a huge difference and are part of a comprehensive pain-management strategy.

How many pets did this grant help?

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Gertie (first three photos) is a tiny cat with a huge meow. We have been working diligently on Gertie’s health. At 16 years old, she has had some health issues.

At her age, it’s important to recheck bloodwork regularly and follow up on any concerns. Our vet wanted to do an ultrasound, which the grant covered.

The ultrasound revealed that Gertie has lymphoma. She was removed from our adoption program and is now in our forever foster program and will remain with us, receiving palliative care.
