Shelter Animal Resource Alliance: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Petfinder Foundation granted us $250, which was used to rescue a cat named Jackson Galaxy from euthanasia and provide him medical care, food, toys, treats, and other supplies until he was adopted to a loving forever home.

This grant helps S.A.R.A. continue our lifesaving mission of rescuing, assisting, and advocating for homeless and shelter animals that are at risk of euthanasia. We can continue to help animals in need and find them loving forever homes thanks to contributions like this.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Jackson Galaxy is an absolutely amazing cat who is about 9 years old. He was previously declawed on his front two paws, so he was adopted to a forever family that understands the importance of keeping Jackson as a strictly indoor cat and is willing to address any side effects that his declaw may lead to, including but not limited to arthritis or needing different litter substrates.

When Jackson came into S.A.R.A.’s rescue program, he had some clouding and redness in his right eye, so we had an exam done with a veterinary optometrist, who diagnosed it as mild eosinophilic keratitis (inflammation of the cornea) in his right eye. To treat, he gets one steroid eye drop administered daily, most likely for his lifetime.

He had been scheduled for euthanasia because his owner could not care for him anymore and the humane society said he was “unadoptable.” It was immediately evident when we met him that Jackson is a wonderful companion with a great disposition who certainly deserves a forever family. He is already adopted and loves being spoiled with treats and affection!
