Almost Home Canine Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Kongs are vital to help our dogs pass the time while they are with our rescue! Some come to us with injuries that result in them having to have some time on crate rest while they heal. Others have never been inside a home or kennel or had human touch.

Kongs are wonderful ways to help them get used to people, pass the time, and have something to do. We have also found many of our dogs find them very soothing and use them to relieve stress! Lying down and working to get all the filling out seems to be a favorite of our foster dogs! We couldn't do it without Kongs!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Nala came to us off a local reservation with her eight 2-day-old puppies. They didn’t have a chance without us, as they had no shelter and it was still winter.

Previously, Nala had no idea about being in a home or having her own family. Once her puppies were old enough to be on their own, it was her turn to learn how to dog!

Kongs were her best friend — they taught her how to relax. She quickly learned that, after playtime with the other dogs, everyone got to come inside, where they each had their own spot, and everyone got their own Kong! They’d all lie down and get every last drop out, and then it was nap time!

If it weren’t for Kongs, we’d still be trying to teach her how to dog!
