Tierra de Animales AC: Shelter+ Challenge Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Tierra de Animales used this grant money to pay for some specific care and surgeries during the time period the grant was awarded and also to help our other 285 dogs on an ongoing basis with medical needs.

Attached are photos of the recent surgeries it enabled us to pay for and some dogs who were in desperate need of rescue that we were able to help and rehabilitate. The animals we rescue are often in dire medical need, so all additional funds we receive outside of normal donations are always very helpful in providing emergency care and treatment.

How many pets did this grant help?

Five specifically with surgery and chemo; other funds were used to help support our 290 dogs daily.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Moskito and Paco were both able to have surgeries to repair fractures to their front legs; both were most likely hit by cars before we rescued them. Both are doing well, able to use their legs and getting around very well and will soon have the bone stabilizers removed at the vet and hopefully be candidates soon for adoption. Serena was hit by a car in Cancun and left for dead until we rescued her. We were able to get her the medical help she needed; however, she was paralyzed in her whole hind end from the trauma. With medication and rehab, she is now walking and able to put more and more weight on her legs. She was also very malnourished and she is much healthier now in recovery. Jason (now Toro) was rescued from a jungle area on the brink of death from starvation and parasite infection. He received various treatments to stabilize him, clear his infections and gain much-needed weight. He flew last week to Calgary to find a forever home. Nikki was rescued by a clinic volunteer from a short chain, also in a state of starvation even though she had owners. She received the medical treatment she needed and is now ready for adoption also.
