Cyan's Private Garden Rescue: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We are very grateful for this opportunity and used the funds to the best of our ability! We were able to take care of many tasks that were needed to enhance our adoption events in a positive way. We scheduled a "Special Valentine's Adoption Event & Raffle!" A paid Facebook promotion was placed to invite interested pet lovers in the local community to our event. We even placed an ad locally in "GO Memphis" and invited all our supporters electronically.
Marketing is very important when it comes to rescue and we all know the value of social media. We repaired our computer system by replacing a stick of RAM and wireless keyboard with speakers so that we are able to share our pets on social media.
So our rescue dogs can look their best at events, we got two new display crates with beds to keep them nice and comfortable, and a new display table. Yard signs were purchased to direct passers-by to our location. We placed flyers and hung posters about the event inside the Hollywood Feed Store. Our volunteers will have nice T-shirts with our new logo promoting our rescue and dog adoptions. At Tractor Supply we located a safe and strong outdoor dog kennel (bottom photo) to create more space for our rescue dogs. It will enhance the life of and give enrichment to the dogs who stay in rescue for any period of time!
It improved our operations and functioning abilities tremendously! It helped provide behavior modification for a rescue named Kimball (third photo) with the use of a new citronella bark-control collar. It alerted the public about our cause and helped strengthen our public relations through advertising.
How many pets did this grant help?
Five dogs' lives were improved at this time. But the effects of the grant will last for years and help many more new rescues as space becomes available.

Samantha (first and second photos) was an injured dog whom we rescued from behind the local Sam’s Club. She was injured when a truck blew her off a bridge into a huge drainage ditch. When she landed, it dislocated her leg from her pelvis. She laid at the bottom of the ditch for days; people told me they threw food down to her until one day, she was gone. She had gained enough strength to move. She disappeared from sight for more than five months. Samantha had to be trapped. She was starving and injured. She tested positive for heartworms and had a hip luxation. The vet recommended she get spayed first and then receive heartworm treatment. It would have to be two separate operations. With the grant funds we were able to hold a special Valentine Raffle. The money the raffle raised will be used to pay for her femoral head ostectomy surgery!
