We have had many people who can't afford to reclaim their dogs, and we do work with the owners by making sure that pets and their owners stay together no matter what the situation may be. This includes vaccinating the dog for rabies and DAPPv and providing microchipping.

Gerald and Susie had been together for 16 years. They were homeless, and someone stole Susie from Gerald.

Wilson County Animal Control was called about an old Chihuahua-type dog that had been running up and down the road for several days and no one could find out where she belonged. We picked her up in a rural area of the county and brought her in. The first thing we did was to post her on the lost-and-found page. Oh, the calls started coming in.

Someone Gerald knew had made some flyers for him and put them up all over the town. Gerald called crying and asked where we were. We gave him our address; he said that he was homeless but would try to get to us as soon as possible. We asked him where he was and told him that we would come and get him, and we did.

When Susie saw him, she started whining and Gerald was crying. It was such an awesome and heartwarming thing to see. We were able to vaccinate Susie for him and also microchip her. We do see them every now and then and yes, they are still together.
