Bi-Stone Small Paws Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The pups at our rescue were so happy to get their Kong toys. Some of the pups had never had toys before coming to our rescue. They didn't know what to do with them at first, but we added peanut butter to them and they were grabbing them and running to the corners and other places they could find to enjoy chewing on them. We also used them when we transported 26 pups to Seattle and Stanwood, Washington, from central Texas. The Kong toys kept the dogs occupied during the trip.
The Kongs are great for redirecting destructive chewing behaviors to the toys which are allowed to be chewed on, as well as for providing something for the dogs to do while in their kennels. The dogs are happier and quieter in their kennels now that they have the Kong toys in there to chew on and play with. On behalf of the pups, we thank the Petfinder Foundation and Kong for picking our rescue to receive one of the Kong Toy Grants.

There were two litters of pups the Kong toys helped. One litter was five months old when we took them in and had never had toys. They weren’t sure what to do with the Kongs, but once they figured out what the toys were and that they could play with them, they become the happiest pups to have their own Kong toys.
Another litter of pups the Kongs helped was a hound litter. We brought the Kongs on the transport to Seattle and Stanwood, Washington, and the dogs were so busy chewing on the Kongs, the trip went great. The pups were occupied chewing on the Kongs the entire trip and they were happy and calm when we arrived at our destinations.
There was another dog who really surprised us when she brought a Kong to us to play tug-of-war. She barked non-stop in her kennel until the day when she had Kongs to play with. Her non-stop barking subsided. We never knew she liked to play tug-of-war until she brought the Kong toy to me to play with. She was so happy to have this toy. She has since been adopted and her owner will be getting her Kongs.
