Abandoned Animal Rescue: Orvis Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Nylabone Durachews, Kong Extreme dog toys, JW Hol-ee Football dog toys, Jolly Pets Teaser dog toys -- all in assorted sizes.

This grant provided 73 assorted toys and chews for the dogs awaiting adoption. All dogs are taken to outdoor play yards twice a day to interact with the volunteers; this is important in helping to alleviate shelter stress in the dogs who may be at the shelter a longer time before they are adopted. They are also given safe chews and interactive toys (such as Kongs) for overnight entertainment.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Domino, a young whippet mix, can run like the wind. He is playful, fun, and fast. For dogs like Domino, it is crucial to have enrichment toys while at the shelter. Domino was rescued on a busy highway and happily went with his rescuer. He is a typical adolescent and likes to chew, especially his own collar. Domino is very regal and absolutely stunning. He will make a wonderful companion so long as he has an active family and plenty of sturdy toys! Meet Domino here.

Lola was found as a stray and loved by her rescuer, and now she is loved by AAR volunteers. She is a gentle, sweet girl who just wants lots of tender, loving care. She LOVES to play fetch! Sometimes she has seemed “stand-offish” when meeting new people, but throw the ball, have some fun and you’ll be her new best friend. Meet Lola here.
