Seattle Humane Society: A Shot at Life Vaccination Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We received 15 cases of Fel-O-Guard Plus 4 + LVK for cats and 8 cases of Duramune Adult 3 for dogs to vaccinate our shelter animals.

The grant from Petfinder Foundation helped Seattle Humane Society provide vaccinations for our shelter dogs and cats as part of our routine protocols to make our them ready for adoption. All of our shelter guests are spayed or neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, examined by one of our staff veterinarians, and temperament tested prior to being made available for adoption.

Pets with conditions that we can treat receive the care they need. Treatments can range from repairing broken legs; performing amputations; eye removal; care for sore ears, skin conditions and wounds; and treatment for kennel cough and upper respiratory infections in cats. At many shelters, animals requiring special care are put to death, but through the generosity of our donors, we are able to provide life-saving care to give hundreds of animals a new chance at life.

Jenny, a 1-year-old German Shepherd, was in a lot of pain and had difficulty walking when she was transferred to the Seattle Humane Society. Our vet staff discovered Jenny had a severe injury in one of her back legs and would need surgery to live a healthy life. Many shelters do not have the time or resources to give pets like Jenny the care she needed. We fixed her back leg, gave her vaccinations and time to heal in a caring foster home. Today, she is healthy and happy, going for long walks and visiting the dog park with her new family.
