Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals (HAVA): Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant helped us reduce the fees for adoption of our hard-to-adopt pets and older pets. This really helped our community, as many of our adopters are low-income and seniors. The pets were able to get home sooner.

How many pets did this grant help?

About 15

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Morticia (first photo) came to us from a property owner. Morticia was found wandering the property and no one stepped up as her owner. She was surrendered to us.

She was pretty bristly with us, letting us pet her on her terms. She was with us for about four months. She came and sat in her new owner’s lap while they were sitting on the floor waiting to pet her.

Scooter (second photo) came to us from a deceased owner. The police contacted us after the apartment manager called them, wishing to have the cat picked up.

Scooter was very fearful and we could not get him out of his carrier at first. After about two weeks, he warmed up and was very loving.

He went to a great home on the Long Beach Peninsula. A lady adopted him who had lost her cat shortly before adopting Scooter.
