Spokane Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kongs were for our Airway Heights Corrections Center Prison Dog Program.

We have eight dogs who live at the correction center for 10 weeks. The Kongs help keep them busy during the day and at night in their kennels. They love trying to get the peanut butter and treats out of the Kongs. The grant of the Kong toys helped sustain our budget as we are financially responsible for purchasing all the toys and treats for the prison dogs.

How many pets did this grant help?

Eight dogs each 10-week session

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

The white dog in the first picture is Ginko. He is the youngest dog we have had in the program so far, and the only dog who did not have an adoption application yet. Using these pictures and posting on social media, we immediately got three applications for him! The brown dog is Teddy. He loves his Kong! If possible, we may be able to send the Kongs home with the dogs when their new adopters come and pick them up on July 24.
