How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The shampoo has been used to help clean multiple puppies and dogs who have come into the shelter. The samples have been given out to puppy and dog adopters.

The products supplied by this grant helped our shelter staff bathe many of the puppies and dogs who came into our facility in preparation for adoption. It has been particularly helpful since we usually do not see very many puppies at our facility. However, we have taken in 18 relatively small puppies (four litters) since September. They have had to be potty trained, and many had severe diarrhea. Therefore, these supplies really helped us with cleaning up after all these dogs. New adopters/owners are always excited to receive samples and freebies as well.

Nine dogs and six puppies have been adopted through Nov. 30; 22 dogs and puppies are current residents.

A few weeks ago, a very old toy poodle whom our staff renamed Betty While arrived at our shelter. She was found wandering near the City of Pullman’s garbage collection and recycling facility, and no one came in to claim her. We estimate that she is about 12 years old. When she arrived she was in poor shape. Her teeth were very bad, and many of them had to be pulled out. She had lost much of her hair, and the hair she did have was severely matted. She has a cataract in one eye and what appears to be cherry eye in the other. The “cherry” eye is also unable to produce tears at this time. Our shelter staff have gone to quite a bit of trouble to clean poor Betty up, and we are now looking for an adoptive home or a permanent foster home for her.
