Saving Great Animals: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

With this grant, we were able to support Paloma within our transitional housing, as she was extremely fearful due to her treatment by her previous owners. Paloma stayed at our transitional housing, where she received not only mental health support but medical treatment for a mammary tumor and the removal of a bullet that was lodged in her neck. Because of this grant, we not only were able to support Paloma's medical and mental health needs, but this grant enabled us to keep her adoption fee to a low level.

How many pets did this grant help?

Because of the expenses associated with Paloma's care, the $1,000 grant helped one dog.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Paloma was abandoned by her owners; she was extremely skittish and afraid when we received her. In addition, she had several medical issues that needed to be addressed.

Paloma was immediately examined by one of our partner veterinarians to determine the severity of the tumors she had; during this examination, it was discovered that she also had a bullet lodged in her neck.

Paloma was immediately treated medically by having her full mammary chain removed, as well as the bullet. She was cared for in our transitional housing as she recovered and was also treated for mental-health issues as a result of the poor treatment by her previous owners.

We are happy to say that, after this care process, Paloma was successfully adopted by her forever home in October 2023.
