Albert's Dog Lounge, Inc.: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We used the Kong donation to set up a "Kong Station." The bulk of the dogs in our program are transported to us from other states. Oftentimes, they are in our intake facility for several hours as their records are gone through or they wait to be picked up by fosters or meet their new adoptive families. This is a very stressful situation for them, and we have found that giving them peanut-butter Kongs is soothing, especially for the the larger-breed dogs.

For the many dogs who have already benefitted from this donation: While they are in our intake facility, they get yummy, peanut-butter-filled Kongs. This helps take their minds off being in a new, strange environment and gives them something delicious to focus on. We find this soothes them and helps bring the stress levels down for them.

How many pets did this grant help?

Dozens at this point, and since we will be keeping this station available for all the dogs in our program, it will help hundreds more.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Betty had to wait for several hours in our intake facility since her foster was helping to do vaccinations and adoption-counseling. Betty was given a Kong to help her settle in and relax. It was such a great thing for Betty that we had all but forgotten she was there. She laid down and enjoyed her Kong and was very relaxed as a result. At this time, Betty is still available for adoption, but currently has a pending meet-and-greet.
