Oshkosh Area Humane Society: Other Animals Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Thanks to the generous Other Animals Grant from the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to make significant improvements to our shelter. We purchased new and larger aquariums for our mice, hamsters, and gerbils, providing them with more space to explore and play. Additionally, we acquired a new Critter Nation habitat for our rats, which offers them a more stimulating and comfortable environment. Our guinea pigs now have spacious new cages and cozy igloos to retreat to, enhancing their overall well-being.

We also provided new chew toys and enrichment items for our rabbits and guinea pigs, ensuring they have plenty of activities to keep them engaged and happy. These items have made a noticeable difference in the comfort and happiness of our small mammals. When they feel more at ease, they become more outgoing and interactive with potential adopters, leading to quicker adoptions.

We are incredibly grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for its support in making these improvements. Your generosity has truly transformed the lives of our small mammals, making our shelter a better place for them to thrive while they await their forever homes. Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for helping us make a positive impact on the lives of these wonderful animals!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Jack the rabbit (first photo) arrived at our shelter very under-socialized, having been transferred from another shelter that wasn’t sure if they would be able to find him a home. Because Jack was faced with the possibility of euthanasia if we couldn’t take him in, we stepped in, as we are committed to being a life-saving shelter.

Thanks to the new enrichment chew toys purchased through the generous grant from the Petfinder Foundation, our dedicated volunteers and staff worked to win Jack over and rebuild his trust in people. Their efforts paid off, and Jack is now thriving in our care. He has become more social and interactive, making him ready for his new forever home.

We are so happy to see Jack’s transformation and are grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for its support in providing the resources that made this possible. Jack is now ready to find his forever home, and we couldn’t be happier with his progress. Thank you, Petfinder Foundation, for helping us give Jack a second chance at life! You can meet Jack here.
