Safe Haven Puppy Sanctuary, Inc.: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant was great because it allowed us to purchase some much-needed "sturdier" toys for our adult dogs and smaller toys for our smaller pups. We have had a lot of pups grow up in rescue over these last few years; we have several sanctuary dogs and several hard-to-adopt dogs and they need toys that will last longer than five minutes. We also have several special-needs dogs, including two brothers, Kingsley and Boone, who are both sight- and hearing-impaired, so we got them some lick mats for enrichment to help them utilize their other senses.

We also always send "Adoption bags" with our pups when they get adopted, this grant allowed us to send an extra toy or two that was familiar with the pup that they could take onto their new home. We had 10 dogs adopted in December who were able to have an extra toy to take to their new homes because of this grant.

How many pets did this grant help?

25-50

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We were able to add an extra toy to the adoption bags of all of our pups who were adopted in November and December. They were Sierra, Delta, Salsa, Maybelline, Revlon, Elliot, Munch, Casey, and Amanda, to name a few!

We also have two special-needs brothers, Boone (first photo) and Kingsley, who came into rescue at 8 weeks old and have grown up in our rescue; they will be a year old in January. They are both sight- and hearing-impaired, so with the grant, we were able to get them some Benebones (which all our big dogs love to chew on) and some lick mats for extra enrichment with their other senses. Unfortunately, they are still waiting for their forever homes, but they love the new bones and special treats.

You can meet Boone here.
