Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS): Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant from the Petfinder Foundation helped LAPS purchase a variety of enrichment items for the dogs in our care, including nose-work games, toys, balls, ball-tossers, etc. These items are incredibly helpful in calming dogs who have behavioral issues when they come to LAPS -- or who start displaying negative behavior because of the trauma that can be initiated by being in a shelter environment. When we're able to mitigate these responses and reduce the dogs' stress, we give these dogs the opportunity to show their real personalities, giving them the best chance at adoption.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Lola (first photo) was found in very bad shape in Langley. LAPS searched for her owners, but no one came to claim her. She underwent some medical treatment and got some training and socialization, as she was very shy when she arrived at LAPS. One of the things that provided Lola with comfort and helped with her training was a tosser and ball, which she loved playing with. She spent about six months at LAPS and in foster care and was recently adopted.
