How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Monadnock Humane Society greatly benefitted from the KONG Toy Grant. Being at the shelter is very stressful for our animals and we want to do everything we can to relieve some of the stress they experience in this environment. KONGs offer our dogs mental stimulation, reduce boredom, and provide a healthy outlet for their energy. Overall, these items are essential in ensuring the overall well-being of our shelter dogs, regardless of their length of stay, by providing mental stimulation, alleviating stress, and promoting healthy behaviors. The toys we received from this grant helped, and continue to help, provide vital enrichment for the dogs in our care.

A specific dog who benefitted from this grant is Baron. Baron is a beautiful German shepherd who was surrendered to our organization this past June.

Baron had never been in a shelter environment before and was very anxious upon arrival. He was shut down but began to trust our staff and we discovered his love for peanut-butter KONGs. Having a KONG in the morning before going out for a walk allowed Baron to calm down and enjoy a special treat.

Baron was adopted about a month after he arrived and we are certain that the KONGs and toys we received had a massive positive impact on him during his time in our care. You can see pictures of Baron enjoying a KONG above.
