Dubois County Humane Society: KONG Toys Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
Shelter life can be very stressful for dogs. While we bring them into the office for socialization and have playgroups throughout the week, it helps for them to have Kongs during times in their kennels. Kongs give them entertainment and stimulation and reduce stress and noise.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
We’ve had several sets of pairs come into the shelter, and while we try to keep bonded pairs together, it’s not always possible to adopt out two dogs to a family. For instance, Plum (first and second photos) was found as a stray with her pups. Her pups have been adopted but she has not. Luckily Plum is in a foster home, but having a Kong gives her something to do and hopefully helps her miss her pups less until she finds her own home.
Edmond (third photo) is a playful senior who was found as a stray. He really needs to stay busy or he can become depressed.
Blue (fourth and fifth photos) came into the shelter with another dog. The other dog has since been adopted and Blue is starting to decline in our care. Kongs help give him something to do to pass the time.
