City of Seguin Animal Services: Dog Field Trip/Short-Term Fostering Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant has helped us get a better understanding of our animals for potential adopters. It has also helped our participants fall in love with the dogs they are spending the day with and helped them decide to adopt. Our animals also enjoy the time out to socialize and come back calmer and more relaxed.

How many pets did this grant help?

500

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Jeopardy (first photo), a whirlwind of fur and energy, had been a fixture at the animal shelter for 197 days. With her boundless enthusiasm and tendency to bounce off the walls (figuratively, of course!), she often found herself overlooked by potential adopters. Shelter life was wearing on her, and the days seemed to stretch on endlessly.

One day a man named Tommy came into the shelter looking to help the animals get some time out of the shelter. We spoke to him about our Dogs Day Out program and encouraged Tommy to see which dog he felt he would like to take out.

Tommy looked around and ended up setting his eyes on Jeopardy. He took Jeopardy out for the day and, not long after, he asked to adopt her. Tommy had taken her home and fallen in love with her and just couldn’t bring her back to the shelter.

Jeopardy’s 197-day wait had finally come to an end. Thanks to the Dog Field Trip grant, she was given the chance to show the world her true colors and find the loving home she deserved.
