It is with heavy hearts that we share this final update on our sweet Yuki. Yuki, a 2-year-old microbully, came into our care on Jan. 2, 2026, after her breeders left a prolapsed bladder untreated for over a month with no intention of seeking care.

Once surrendered, she was immediately transported to an emergency hospital, where she received life-saving treatment over the course of a week.

During her initial treatment, imaging revealed concerns with her cardiac function, requiring follow-up with a cardiologist. While recovering from surgery, Yuki ingested part of a rubber toy, which led to a rectal prolapse and required additional intensive care. After weeks of treatment and recovery, she showed incredible resilience.

Following her recovery, a cardiology evaluation confirmed a diagnosis of pulmonary synopsis, which was causing fluid to accumulate in her lungs and abdomen. Her condition was progressive and not expected to improve. With the onset of warmer weather, she began developing a persistent cough, signaling further decline.

On March 20, 2026, we made the incredibly difficult and compassionate decision to euthanize Yuki to prevent further suffering.

Though her time with us was far too short, Yuki quickly captured the hearts of everyone she met. We had hoped to give her the loving forever home she deserved, and this outcome is not the one we wished for her. However, her story has allowed us to raise awareness about the serious health challenges often faced by designer breeds, the resilience and love these dogs show despite hardship, and the heartbreaking decisions rescues must make every day.

We are deeply grateful to the Petfinder Foundation for the support provided toward Yuki’s medical care. Your generosity allowed us to give her comfort, dignity, and every possible chance.
