C Alley Cats of Lake Wallenpaupack: Emergency Medical Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Beyond this individual case, grant funding allowed us to utilize our limited medical funds to complete extensive dental work on two other cats and to care for a cat with a degloving injury of her tail.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Brave Heart, a Scottish fold, was rescued in mid-November with a broken pelvis and a dislocated right hind leg. He had puncture wounds on his right hind leg. The trauma that caused his injuries is unknown, but the most likely cause would be a predator attack.

Brave Heart required surgery called an FHO (femoral head ostomy) to save his leg and restore his ability to walk. He was rushed to Eastern PA Veterinary Hospital in Allentown. Brave Heart’s surgery was performed on Nov. 26 and he came back to his foster home on Thanksgiving.

Brave Heart required several months to heal and return to full function. Today he can do everything you would expect from a cat; nothing seems to stop this boy. He remains a sweet, loving cat who purrs easily and loves belly rubs. Brave Heart is fully recovered and was cleared for adoption in February 2026. On April 20, he was adopted and left foster care for his forever home.
