Grumpy Goat Rescue Co.: Other Animals Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
This grant made a meaningful difference in our ability to provide consistent, species-appropriate nutrition for the horses in our care during the winter months.
Funding from the Petfinder Foundation directly supported the purchase of hay, ration-balancer, and senior complete feed for horses listed on Petfinder, including Jett, an adoptable mare, as well as additional senior and special-needs horses receiving care alongside her.
During colder weather, when pasture access is limited and nutritional needs increase, consistent feeding becomes especially important — particularly for older horses or those requiring additional support to maintain weight and condition. This grant allowed us to maintain steady feeding routines without interruption and make small adjustments based on each horse’s individual needs.
Just as importantly, this support provided a bit of breathing room during a time when expenses tend to stack up quickly. In a sanctuary setting, we are committed to ensuring the animals are cared for no matter what — often at personal sacrifice, if needed — but having these core feed needs supported allowed us to operate more proactively and sustainably. It meant we could direct other limited resources toward veterinary care and unexpected winter-related needs as they arose.
We are incredibly grateful for this support. It allowed us not only to meet essential nutritional needs, but to do so in a way that was consistent, thoughtful, and responsive to the horses in our care.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
This grant supported the ongoing care of approximately 14 horses at the sanctuary, including Jett and other senior and special-needs horses listed on Petfinder.
Because we operate as a long-term sanctuary, the impact of this funding extends beyond a single animal, supporting a group of horses who rely on consistent daily care throughout the year.
Jett, an adoptable mare listed on Petfinder, was one of the horses directly supported by this grant.
Like many horses in our care, Jett benefits from consistent nutrition and routine to maintain her condition, particularly during the winter months when pasture access is limited. With the support of this funding, we were able to ensure that her feeding remained steady, including hay and appropriate supplemental feed, without interruption.
This consistency is especially important in maintaining weight, supporting overall health, and reducing stress during colder weather. Rather than reacting to changes in condition, we were able to stay ahead of her needs — adjusting feed as appropriate and maintaining a routine that supports her well-being.
Jett continues to be listed for adoption, and in the meantime, she remains part of the daily rhythm of the sanctuary — cared for alongside other horses in a calm, structured environment.
While not all of the animals we care for are adoptable, this grant helped support a model where both adoptable and long-term residents receive the same consistent, thoughtful care.
Support like this allows us to continue providing steady, consistent care for both adoptable and long-term residents, and we are truly grateful for the role it plays in sustaining that work.
