CARE Humane Society: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The Petfinder Foundation KIA grant had a tremendous impact on our organization and the pets in our care. We are deeply grateful for this generous support, which allowed us to run a special adoption promotion from Nov. 5-20. During this event, we waived all adoption fees for our pets except for those who were unaltered, making it easier than ever for families to welcome a new furry friend into their homes.
Thanks to this grant, we were able to adopt out 47 animals who had been waiting for their forever homes. Events like this truly make a meaningful difference for the dogs and cats in our shelter. By removing financial barriers, we can help more pets find loving families, especially in communities where the upfront costs of adoption can be a significant obstacle. This grant directly contributed to happier outcomes for both our animals and the people eager to give them a second chance.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
One of the pets directly helped by this grant was George (first photo), a joyful and energetic dog who arrived at our shelter on Halloween. From the moment he came through our doors, it was clear he had been loved. He was in excellent health, had wonderful manners, and greeted everyone with boundless enthusiasm. We were certain a family would come looking for him.
We waited out his seven-day stray hold, hoping for news, but no one reached out. Despite our best efforts, there were no owners and no family searching for George.
Because he was a highly desirable breed, George quickly drew a lot of interest, and we were able to place him in a foster home during his hold period. His foster knew that if an owner came forward, she would have to say goodbye. Thankfully for her, no one claimed him, and she was able to officially welcome George into her home with the support of this grant. He was adopted and is now thriving with the family he chose for himself (second photo).
While George did not spend much time in the shelter, his story is a perfect example of the wonderful dogs who pass through our doors. Many people assume shelters only have pit mixes or very few purebred dogs, but this is simply not true. George may have been a rare find, but we care for a wide variety of dogs who are ready to become loving companions for the right family. This grant helped make stories like George’s possible.
