Humane Society of the Ouachitas: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Pets living in rural Arkansas contend with fleas and ticks for most of the year. Year-round treatment is critical to the pets' health and in making them adoption-ready. The Bar Dog Grant of $1,000 was used to purchase monthly flea and tick preventative for both cats and dogs.

Our shelter team was thrilled to receive the grant funding in the latter part of October. The products were ordered right away. In November and December, 135 dogs and cats received the benefit of these products. Some product remains and will continue to benefit pets as they enter our shelter. Products purchased with the Bar Dog Grant have been a vital part of helping these pets go from homeless to healthy and happy.

How many pets did this grant help?

In 2023, 135. In 2024, 40.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Meet Diesel (first photo)! He is one great guy! At 81 lbs., there is a lot to love. This guy is friendly, house-trained, and good with kids. He is currently looking for love and available for adoption. Meet Diesel here.

The other pups pictured had just been bathed and given flea and tick preventative (from the Bar Dog Grant) and other needed treatments. They were ready to go to their foster homes. I am happy to report that all these pups have been adopted and spent Christmas with their very own families.
