Front Range Freedom Rescue: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Upon receipt of our KONGs, we immediately distributed them to our foster homes. Foster parents were clamoring with excitement for the wonderful KONGs. The fosters immediately began to use the KONGs with their foster dogs. Whether the KONGs were frozen, filled or unfilled, the dogs were delighted to chew on them. Our anxious dogs were especially happy with a frozen KONG, which provided hours of entertainment and chewing therapy.

We believe that our dogs are more adoptable thanks to KONGs. They are more calm and more happy. Puppies are distracted away from destructive chewing. Anxious dogs are calmed. And all dogs enjoy a good chew toy.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Jerry is a heeler mix who has separation anxiety. While he’s still available for adoption, he is significantly more happy and calm since the introduction of frozen KONGs. His foster mom gives him a frozen KONG whenever she leaves the house. There is no barking and destruction now that Jerry can get a peanut-butter-filled, frozen KONG. We believe this makes him much more adoptable and expect him to find a new home soon. Meet Jerry here.
