Cabot Animal Support Services: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant had a direct and measurable impact on our organization and the animals in our care. By allowing us to offer reduced-fee cat and dog adoptions, the grant removed a key financial barrier for many families and encouraged more community members to consider adoption.

From October through December 2025, 114 cats and dogs were successfully adopted at the reduced adoption fee, significantly increasing live outcomes during this period. These adoptions not only helped animals find loving, permanent homes more quickly, but also reduced length of stay, alleviating stress on the animals and freeing up kennel space to assist additional pets in need.

For our organization, the grant strengthened our ability to respond to ongoing intake demands while maintaining high standards of care. Faster adoptions allowed staff and volunteers to focus resources on enrichment, medical care, and behavioral support for remaining animals. For the pets, the grant meant shorter shelter stays, improved well-being, and a greater chance at a stable, happy future with their new families.

Overall, the Kia Pet Adoption Grant was instrumental in increasing adoptions, supporting humane outcomes, and furthering our mission to place shelter pets into safe and loving homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Wes’s adoption is a wonderful example of the impact made possible through the Kia Pet Adoption Grant. Wes first came to CASS as a transfer from a high-[intake] shelter for one of our adoption events. During that visit, he was selected for a Hounds on the Town outing, where a volunteer took him to a local pet store to pick out a toy. Wes proudly chose a green stuffed frog, which quickly became a symbol of hope for his future.

After the event, Wes was transferred back to the original shelter, and we tucked his frog away — holding onto it as a reminder that his forever family was still out there. When Wes returned to CASS for another adoption event, the opportunity made possible by the Kia Pet Adoption Grant’s reduced adoption fees helped him stand out to potential adopters. This time, Wes found his perfect match and went home with a loving family.

A few weeks later, Wes’s story came full circle. His family stopped by another adoption event where our mobile unit was parked outside the same pet store Wes had visited before. They went inside to let Wes pick out a new toy — and once again, he chose the very same green stuffed frog.

Thanks to the Kia Pet Adoption Grant, Wes was given multiple chances to be seen, supported, and ultimately adopted. His story reflects how reduced adoption fees and community-focused adoption events help shelter dogs find their way home, sometimes with a favorite toy along for the journey.
