Humane Society of Marion County: Bar Dog Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

Costs of dog food and vet care are going up (it seems every day!). With all the vet expenses and supply costs going up, we are not purchasing very many dog treats but trying to limit our spending to only the necessities. Our shelter is full, with all our dog kennels full and more than 50 cats. We are all volunteers and trying really hard, but adoptions have been slower than usual.

With this grant, we were able to purchase a LOT of treats, nutritional treats, and chews for our dogs to bring some extra enjoyment to their days at our shelter. We expect the treats will last about a year, thereby helping a lot of dogs. Some dogs are seniors, and joint supplements in the form of treats are helping them tremendously. Also, we have some very anxious dogs who are benefiting from calming treats.

How many pets did this grant help?

25 or more

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

These supplements helped Harry, who has some anxiety when meeting new people. Giving him treats enables him to trust humans and also have a yummy snack!

We have so many, these treats will last a year for us. We cannot begin to express how much we appreciate it!

sweet Harry is still seeking an adoptive home. You can meet Harry here.
