How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

We were able to purchase Kong balls for our shelter animals. These toys are stimulating for the animals and help them avoid going stir-crazy in the kennel environment.

We had a German shepherd named Riley who had originally come into the shelter as a stray. She went into homes a couple of times, but was ultimately returned.

During her time in the shelter, our staff and volunteers were able to work with her to learn what her attributes were so that we could highlight them to the public.

During this time, one of our very dedicated volunteers would take her to the play yard daily and play fetch with her. He was able to make a breakthrough with her and she started being very loyal to him.

After a game of fetch, we would put peanut butter into the middle of the Kong ball for her to snack/work on to keep her stimulated while in the kennel.

Finally, she was adopted by a very sweet family. She has since continued to thrive.
