East Orange Animal Alliance: KONG Toys Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The East Orange Animal Alliance has a volunteer program called "Boredom Busters." It allows the community to support the shelter from their homes. They pick up the empty KONGS at a local board member's house, and get a set of instructions on how to stuff them with treats. The volunteer then delivers them to the shelter for the dogs to enjoy.

Lately, the shelter staff have been using KONGS as a "reward" for dogs to return to their kennels after some time in the new play yard (win-win!). As you can imagine, the shelter has its share of "tough chewers" and the KONGS often need to be replaced for safety reasons. Thanks to this grant, we were able to replace the worn KONGS and have more for the freezer stock!

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Both Dee Dee (first five photos) and Homer (sixth and seventh photos) recently enjoyed brand new KONG bones stuffed with treats and peanut butter. It was their well-deserved treat after a nice romp in the play yard!

Meet Dee Dee here.
