Piper was found tied to a tree in a local park. She was very skinny. The lady who found her took all the steps needed to find her owner. The owner was located via a microchip and stated she no longer wanted Piper. How Piper ended up tied to a tree 90 minutes from her home, we will never know.
The kind lady who found Piper held on to her for a year, but her health wasn’t good, and she decided to find Piper a new home. This was where Miss Maggie May’s Rescue came in. One of our foster families was contacted and Piper joined the Miss Maggie May’s Family.
Thirteen-year-old Piper was in desperate need of some veterinary care. There was as issue with her eyes and her mouth was swollen.
First up: her eyes. Piper had ulcers on both of her eyes. It was determined that she was not producing any tears, and she was put on three different medications. The short-term medication had to be given every two hours for two weeks. Between her foster and another foster, we had her covered.
Her foster mom has a second job where she works overnight a few nights a week. She has been able to take Piper to work with her, and this is where Piper’s story comes alive.
During her overnight shifts with her foster mom, Piper quickly became the one everyone would seek out to hug, hold, and pet when they were having a bad day. Piper loved this. Soon, when the overnight shift would post who was working that night, Piper’s name would be up on the board along with her foster mom’s.
Next up for medical attention was Piper’s mouth. She had several abscesses and had five teeth pulled. Six months later, after another abscess and another tooth removed, this poor gal only has a few teeth left.
Since Piper was going to need monthly medication for her eyes and her age, Miss Maggie May’s Rescue applied at the Petfinder Foundation for the Senior Pet Adoption Assistance Grant and was awarded the funds.
Piper started getting applications from potential adopters, and that was when the most amazing thing happened. Piper’s foster mom kept thinking about how Piper was helping so many people decompress, how excited Piper would get when she put on a cute outfit, which meant she was going to work. The foster mom just couldn’t take that away from her, so she adopted Piper.
Piper just turned 14 years old and, to look at her, you wouldn’t guess that she was that old. She enjoys life and people. She is always dressed up in a super-cute outfit. She is the sweetest dog and enjoys her overnight shifts, stopping for breakfast after the shift, and running errands before heading home. Piper can be found just sitting there enjoying the morning and life. No matter where her adventures take her, she makes so many friends.
