Lifeline Oro Valley Animal Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The grant really helped us to place some of our special-needs cats and dogs who'd had longer lengths of stay in our rescue. In addition, it allowed us to expand into more marginalized and disenfranchised areas of the community for adoptions, which supported our organizational commitment of inclusivity.

How many pets did this grant help?

Two dogs and five cats

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Nina came to Lifeline Oro Valley Animal Rescue with very little socialization and exhibited fearfulness around humans. She also had stomatitis, a serious and costly dental issue in which she required a full mouth extraction.

Our volunteers loved her as, regardless of her own past neglect, we all saw how nurturing and loving she was to orphan kittens and other shy and timid cats who would come into our rescue.

After Nina had spent more than 530 days in rescue, we were able to utilize the Kia Pet Adoption Grant from the Petfinder Foundation to tell her story and waive her adoption fee entirely.

A cat-savvy couple who had lost their own beloved black cat wanted to open their home up to another in honor of a life lost and gave Nina the opportunity she needed. They have fallen for Nina and she has found the home and love of a family she always deserved. Nina has been in her home for over two months.

Her home was worth the wait, and we are thankful that, through the Kia Pet Adoption Grant and the support and partnership from the Petfinder Foundation, Nina has found her long-awaited opportunity and we were able to place a special-needs long-timer.
