Desert Cat Rescue & Sanctuary of AZ: Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
The funds from this grant helped us provide cat food (wet and dry) and litter for the cats and kittens in our care, from the time we received the grant funding on April 24, 2026, until we used the last of the funds to buy food on July 3, 2026. Much was bought from Chewy, Walmart, and Cody's Friends distribution center in Tucson. We have receipts for all purchases.
These were mostly kittens waiting to go to the vet to be altered and vaccinated prior to being offered for adoption and cats recovering from URIs and other illnesses before they could be adopted.
We offer dry food available 24 hours and wet food offered twice daily to kittens and those who are sick, nursing, or who may need additional nutrition for other reasons.
How many pets did this grant help?
We had approximately 177 cats on-hand during the timeframe we were using the grant funds.
Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Tao (first photo) is a lovely long-haired Siamese boy. He came to us from a high-[intake] shelter in Roswell, N.M. At first he was very skittish and wouldn’t come down from high places where he felt safe. As you see in the second photo, he was recently adopted and will be happy in the purr-fect home for him!
Toni (third photo) was found in a trash can as a kitten. She stayed with a foster mom for a while until she got big enough for the vet. Then she had a bout with ringworm and a URI, but now she is recovered and ready to go! She is a perfect little tabbico and her personality is as unique as her coat.
