Stillwater Animal Welfare: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant helped us build a play yard for our adoptable shelter dogs. Previously, they only had a small concrete section between kennels to play in. Our kennel technician, who has been conducting play groups since the installation, said that the dogs already seem happier and more content at the end of the day. They play with each other in the play yard and have an opportunity to stretch their legs, lie in the sun, and wrestle with each other.

How many pets did this grant help?

300

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

This play yard has specifically helped Kenzie (first photo), a white boxer/pit mix. She is young dog who is full of energy. She loves other dogs, too, but hadn’t been able to play or really get her energy out during her time with us, which made her antsy in her kennel.

Since the play yard was installed, Kenzie has been able to get a lot of her energy out. We have also been able to get new photos of her with other dogs (second and third photos) to show potential adopters that she is good with other dogs and would make a great playmate! She has not been adopted yet, but we hope she is soon!

You can meet Kenzie here.
