The Hermitage No-Kill Cat Shelter & Sanctuary: COVID-19 Operation Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We requested the funding to help cover the higher costs of PPE and medication for our staff and for the cats in our care. We purchased medication (antibiotics, lidocaine, anti-fungal, and trazodone) for our kitties. This medication helped prepare them for their alteration surgeries, treated parasites or ringworm, and treated their upper-respiratory illnesses ("kitty colds"). We were also able to purchase items like eye-cleaning wipes for the cats, thermometer covers, and nitrile and latex gloves for staff.
We rescued 154 cats and kittens in May and June. We altered just over 100 in the course of medically clearing them for adoption, and found homes for 109. Many of the kittens we rescued have benefited from the antibiotics and anti-parasite treatments as they grow from vulnerable neonate "bottle babies" to rambunctious, adoptable kittens. We have almost 100 kittens in our care as of July 8th, and this funding has provided medication for them.

Honey Bunches of Oats (first photo) came to us as a pregnant queen; a good Samaritan has brought her to us because they knew she needed a safe place to have, and care for, her kittens. We placed her in foster care and she gave birth to five healthy kittens! The “Cereal Kittens” received the best care their mummy could give, and a little help from their foster parents. Only one has not been adopted, but Captain Crunch (second photo) is still growing, and just decided to take his sweet time getting big enough for his own family. This adult cat and her five kittens benefited from this grant through receiving anti-parasite treatments, antibiotics when the kittens got upper-respiratory infections, and eye wipes to keep their faces clean. They might be small things, but they helped these six “kiddos” and we are grateful!
