Hard Luck Animal Welfare Advocates: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed our program to host multiple adoption events offsite and have free adoptions at the shelter on weekends for December. On Dec. 6, we hosted an adoption event with the San Joaquin Department of Education at their holiday party, resulting in seven cats and six dogs finding their forever homes! We will continue to have adoptions sponsored by this grant through the end of this month.

How many pets did this grant help?

Approximately 25

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

We had two long-term residents/fosters here at SAS that went to our Department of Education adoption event who were adopted!

Liliana was a large shepherd mix who came in as a stray (first photo). After an extended stay, and all of her foster siblings being adopted from her foster home, she was struggling with shutting down. Liliana was taken to her forever home with a new family (the second photo shows her ride home) and is living her best life adventuring all over California with them.

Fiona (third photo) is a black, one-eyed kitten who is also blind in her remaining eye. She was overlooked while her littermates were all adopted, and it felt like the odds were stacked against her despite her incredibly kind and playful personality. She went to her forever home in Monterey just in time for the holidays.
