SNAP Cats: Operation Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

SNAP Cats is dedicated to the rescue and care of special-needs cats, including seniors, abused cats, and FIV- and FeLV-positive cats who would otherwise be euthanized. We believe that, if given time, all cats can find the home they deserve. The pool of potential adopters for special-needs cats and kittens is small, but we make every effort to find loving homes for all our cats, including posting their profiles on our website, social media, and on Petfinder.com.

Food is a significant expense for our small organization. With the support of the Petfinder Foundation’s Operation Grant, we were able to provide nutritious, high-quality food to our 15 most-adoptable cats and kittens for three months as they awaited their forever homes.

But food wasn’t the only benefit for the cats. Publicizing the grant award on our social-media pages and in each cat’s bio on our website generated increased interest in our organization and in adoption inquiries, culminating in three adoptions at the end of the three-month grant period, with several more applications currently pending.

How many pets did this grant help?

The Operation Grant enabled us to provide three months’ worth of food for our 15 cats and kittens who are most likely to be adopted because their special needs are mild. However, we believe the grant has benefitted all 65 of the cats currently in our care by generating increased interest in our organization and in the rate of adoption inquiries resulting from announcing the grant award on our social-media pages and website.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Clyde is just under 4 years old and is missing both of his back paws.

When Clyde first arrived at SNAP Cats, he was bonded with his sister, Bonnie. But after spending time at our facility with all the other cats, the two gradually de-bonded, and Bonnie was adopted.

As an all-black cat, Clyde faced more barriers to adoption than his sister. But because of his playful, affectionate personality and the fact that his special needs were mild, we knew his perfect home was out there somewhere.

With the assistance of the Petfinder Foundation Operation Grant, we were able to provide three months’ worth of high-quality food for Clyde as he awaited his forever home. During this time, we created two separate social-media posts featuring Clyde’s picture and bio, along with a note letting our followers know about the Petfinder Foundation’s generous operation grant. We also included the note with Clyde’s bio on our website. We’re happy to report that on April 19, Clyde went home with a wonderful family who’d found him on Petfinder.com!

Additionally, two of the 15 cats we originally included in our application became unadoptable due to health reasons. Around this time, we took in Thelma and Louise, two sisters whose only special need is that they’re each missing an eye. To honor our commitment to including a thank-you to the Petfinder Foundation for our 15 most-adoptable cats, we tagged the Petfinder Foundation in our social-media posts for Thelma and Louise, as well as in their bios on our website. We received quite a few inquiries from potential adopters and are delighted to share that on April 16, the two went home with their forever family.

We’re also currently fielding multiple inquiries for several of our other 15 most-adoptable cats and kittens included in our application and are so thankful not only to have been able to provide three months’ worth of food for them as a result of the Operation Grant, but also for the interest and enthusiasm the grant generated among our supporters and followers.
