Our Underdog Rescue Squad: Dog Enrichment Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

This grant allowed us to purchase harnesses and leashes for our pups so we could get them out for much-needed, much-enjoyed walks! Exercise is such a vital piece of our pups' lives. We were also able to purchase blankets to set out for the pups to soak up the good weather and also to snuggle in when the weather was a bit colder. Miscellaneous toys that help with mental stimulation while the pups are waiting for their forever homes were also purchased. We send a couple of toys home with each pup when they are adopted so that they have something familiar to them as they adjust to their new families/lives.

Enrichment is exactly what our sweet pups need when they often come to us having had tough life experiences. The enrichment this grant provided our pups was a fantastic opportunity to enhance the lives of our pups while they are transitioning from their previous lives to their forever lives.

Wilbur and Shrek both came to us shut down and heartbroken after being discarded in the gutter like trash. Our team poured love, good energy, AND toys into these deserving pups!

We could tell the toys were something they’d never had before, and watching their joy was infectious! We were able to provide full gear for these two: harnesses, collars, leashes, toys, and blankets. The boys were able to enjoy the entire package while in foster.

Once we listed them, the perfect adopter saw them on Petfinder and applied for these two bonded pups, together! Because of the generosity of the Petfinder Foundation, we were able to send these two deserving pups to their new home with full gear.

We believe sending the pups with tools for success, as well as the familiarity of some of their items, helps them transition from their foster home to their forever home flawlessly!
