Better World Rescue: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report
How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?
We used this grant to reduce adoption fees on our longest residents to $20 in order to help them find forever homes. Our longest residents have all been in the rescue for over a year, and need all the help they can get to find homes.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.
Wishbone was one of our longest residents and had been in our rescue for two years. He is the sweetest boy who loves everyone and everything. Despite being a favorite at adoption events, he was repeatedly overlooked for adoption due to being a black, senior pit bull with separation anxiety and a bad back.
When we reduced his adoption fee to $20, one of our previous adopters reached out to her senior mother, Karen, to let her know about Wishbone. She fell in love with him and adopted him!
Wishbone and Karen really rescued each other. Karen had recently suffered the loss of her husband and was feeling the depression of living alone. She was interested in adopting a dog, but could not afford the higher adoption fees on her fixed income.
Thanks to the Kia grant, Wishbone’s adoption fee was affordable for her. Since Better World Rescue did not have to absorb the loss of the reduced adoption fee, we were able to utilize some of our other funds to also send Wishbone home with an annual supply of his medicine for his back.
We are so happy to have our longest resident in such a loving forever home! Thank you to Kia and the Petfinder Foundation for making it possible!
