A Second Chance for Ziva: Kia Pet Adoption Grant Report

How did this grant help your organization and the pets in your care?

The Kia Pet Adoption Grant allowed us to remove financial barriers for adopters while also ensuring pets like Floyd received the specialized medical care they needed to become adoptable. Covering his adoption fee helps us attract the right family without cost being a hurdle, and covering his medical needs gave him a true second chance at life.

For our organization, this grant meant we could say “yes” to helping a dog with complex medical needs, knowing that we had support for both his treatment and adoption journey. It directly improved Floyd’s quality of life, and freed up resources so we could continue helping other dogs in our care.

Please provide a story of one or more specific pets this grant helped.

Floyd, a 4-year-old Catahoula mix, arrived in our care facing serious challenges: cataracts that clouded his vision and a new diabetes diagnosis. These medical issues not only affected his daily life, but also made his chances of adoption slim.

Thanks to the Kia Pet Adoption Grant, we were able to provide cataract surgery and stabilize his diabetes. The transformation has been remarkable: Floyd can now see clearly, his health is under control, and his joyful personality shines through. He entertains himself by tossing a ball in the air, leaps with excitement when it’s time to go outside, and melts into anyone’s lap as if he were the perfect lap dog.

With his adoption fee waived through this grant, Floyd is finally ready for his forever family. He is healthy, happy, and eager to share his goofy, loving spirit with someone who will treasure him as much as we do.

Meet Floyd here.
