The generous donation of KONG toys from the Petfinder Foundation brought an incredible boost of enrichment and fun to the dogs at Lucky Dog Refuge. These durable, interactive toys help reduce stress, encourage healthy play, and provide essential mental stimulation — especially for dogs recovering from medical procedures or adjusting to life in a shelter. Whether stuffed with treats or tossed around during playtime, the KONGs have become a favorite among our pups, helping them stay engaged, build confidence, and simply enjoy being dogs again. The German shepherd you see in the photos is Coal (first and second photos).
For Coal, our visually impaired German shepherd, the KONG toys have been a game-changer. Because of his limited vision, Coal can be hesitant in new environments and often misses out on traditional forms of enrichment. But the scent-filled, chewable KONGs offer him a safe, stimulating way to engage with the world around him. They tap into his strongest sense — smell — while also providing a calming outlet for his energy.
